My transfer to the airport is booked for 2:30pm, so I have plenty of time to kill before then. My travel agent was fantastic and organised me to have a 12pm check out of the hotel. So I decided I would go for one last walk around Rome and buy some lunch to have before the transfer car gets here.
I checked out of my hotel at 12pm and sat in the foyer minding my suitcase waiting for the transfer car. I was so lucky that I decided to wait in the foyer early. My transfer driver was 1.5 hours early to pick me up. I jumped into the black van and we headed towards the airport.
We drove past the collesum along the way which was a nice good bye to Italy.
Although we didn't speak the same language he pointed out places and ruins that I didn't get to see while I was here along the way.
He dropped me off at the airport 5hours before my flight. The line to check in was not even open yet. We'll at least I was first in the line. I waited for 1.5 hours in the front of the line as the line grew. I met this lovely couple who were standing behind me who were also from Australia who were on there honeymoon.
It's funny that I can't manage to get away from Australians here. They are everywhere in Europe. Once we had checked in we went through customs. I went and got some afternoon tea. And got ready for my next flight. A total of 16planes I was going on on this trip... Crazy. Once I got on the plane I realised I was seated next to another couple from Australia.
Flying over the Greek Islands into Greece was amazing. The water was so blue and clear and the sun was setting. Once we landed I began to panic that I wouldn't receive my bag like my last plane ride into Rome. But my bag came out pretty quickly which was a relief.
I went and met my transfer driver and it took about 1 hour to get to the hotel from the airport. He was lovely. He was telling me that Greece has over 100 earthquakes a day but they are so small that you can't feel it.
Once I got to my hotel it was 10pm. Days like today "traveling days" seam like a waste of time but I was so thankful to be in Athens.
I checked into my hotel and realised that I was starving so I walked up the street and found this restaurant with outdoor dining. They also had live greek band playing which was magical. I couldn't believe how cheap the meals were also.
The waiter was a bit of a flirt and he was asking me if I would come back later and go out dancing with them. I politely said that I was meeting my friends after dinner and I couldn't. I didn't want to be too mean I hadn't been brought my main course yet.
The waiter understood and he gave me a flower. Which was a bit cute.
Tomorrow afternoon I start my Greek Island hopper top deck tour. I'm a little bit nervous as I have never done a tour before. My travel agent booked me into this hotel as it is a short walk to the major sites. And the Novus hotel which the top deck tour is staying in is a bit out of the way of the sites.
The Parthenon hotel where I am staying tonight is in a great position but isn't the nicest hotel that I have stayed at.
It was a bit old. But it was comfortable. I would only stay here again because of its location.
I can't wait to explore tomorrow.
