Today I start my Greek Island Hopping Top Deck Tour. So excited. The Greek Islands is some where I have always wanted to visit. The orientation for the top deck tour starts at 4pm at the Novus Hotel. Which is about a 15min taxi ride away from the Parthenon Hotel which is located at the centre of town. I wasn't to sure what we will be seeing in our tour which starts with a day in Athens tomorrow so I thought I would still go for a wander and have a look at the sites. Before I left for Europe no one ever mentioned how hot Greece is. Wow. Spent most of the day drinking water and trying to find shade. I walked up the street past where I had dinner last night to the Museum.
I then admired the Parthenon on the top of the hill and went across the road to the temple of Zeus.
Athens is so beautiful and full of history. When I couldn't take the heat anymore I went and found a restaurant and had some lunch. And then I headed back to the hotel to catch a cab to the Novus hotel.
I organised with reception to arrange a taxi for 3:30pm. When it arrive it was about a 15minute drive to the Novus hotel. The Novus hotel is really modern and slick but it's in a really scamming bit of town. And if you would like to go see the sites you have to catch a taxi or train to the middle of town.
When I arrived at the Novus hotel I got given a key to a room to share a room with a female room mate. I was told at 4:30pm we would have an induction meeting. And that they have a pool and a bar up on the roof. I went up to my room feeling like a school girl meeting my room mate for the first time. I knocked on the door and walked in and caught her getting changed. Man I make a good impression. Turns out that the front desk gave me the wrong key and this girl was staying in the same room as her boyfriend. So down the lift I went to get another room. I got assigned another room and went up and calmed a bed. And decided to go up to the roof and check out the roof top bar and pool.
After spending a bit of time in the sun I came back down to get my bag out of the room and I met my new room mate Shannon. It turns out that she was from Australia and lives in the same suburb as I do back home in Australia. What are the odds of that?
We got change and went down for the orientation meeting.
We had our meeting and went through what we will be doing on each day of the tour.
In the meeting we got told that there was 4 optional tours that we could do which were additional cost.
Athens- half day trip to Cape Sounio toua
Which was to go swimming and sun baking along the coastal road, a huge Greek buffet lunch and then to the Joseidon temple
Mykonos- half day trip
Paros- half day trip to a catherdal and a beach
Santorini- first day watching the sunset over the white houses. And then the second day a trip on a pirate ship, swimming in hot springs, volcano walk and a donkey ride up the hill.
I choose the Athens day trip and the Santorini trip. Which cost me around 100 euros.
We then went and got changed to meet at our hotel lobby to go for dinner. In our top deck group there was about 25 of us. There were 3 couples, 2 groups of friends and the rest of us were singles females and one single male. 4 people were from New Zealand and the rest of us were from Australia.
We met downstairs in the lobby and walked to the train station to catch a train to the restaurant. We walked to the train station and catch 2 trains into town. We then walked to an outdoor restaurant which was stunning and busy.
We had dinner. We all had to pay for our selves. And we got a round of free shots and free dessert. About 11pm we all started to head back. The tour guide asked us if we wanted to go out clubbing. But let us know that we are required to be up early for the guided walking tour.
We all went back to the hotel and a few of the girls and I headed up to the roof top bar for some drinks.
