Athens to Mykonos Day Twenty-seven (Top deck Greek Island Hopper)

Day 27

Off to Mykonos today. I'm so excited. I would of probably been more excited if I got more than 5hours sleep and if we weren't getting up at 5am. After a lot of moaning and groaning about how tired we were we got our suitcase ready and took them down stairs. We had a super early breakfast and the 25 of us got on a huge coach and made our way down to the ferry terminal. It took us about 45mins to get to the terminal. Athens looks so different during the dead of morning. There were so many homeless people that we past on our way to the ferry. By the time we got to the ferry the sun was rising. This ferry was HUGE. 7 levels, elevators, restaurants and shops on each level. I had never been on a boat this big before.

This huge boat was also very slow. Our top deck tour guide directed us where to put our suitcases and where to meet afterwards. We All walked around like lost puppies for awhile until we found a table and chairs out side on one of the decks. It was such a beautiful morning that a few of us decided to sit out side. Which suited me great because I get seasick.

The ferry ride took us 5.5 hours to get to Mykonos and the boat was a bit rocky. The girls that were sitting with me decided to go inside because it was too windy. I liked it on the deck. Even though it was rocky it helped with my sea sickness being able to see the ocean and the land in the distance.

5.5 hours later we arrived at Mykonos.

Yah. I was so happy to get off the boat and onto dry land. We arrived at the port where we were met by our transfer buses which drove about 15minutes to our hotel. Our hotel was located on the top of the hill and was about a 20minute walk in to town. We got to our hotel at 1:30pm and had a brief of what will be happening over the next two days.

The hotel was very Greek. White building, two stories and balconies which had a small view of the ocean. Shannon and I had a room on the upper level. One thing they don't tell you before you go to the Greek Islands is they don't allow you to flush toilet paper down the toilets. You have to put it in the bin. The room was very old but at least it had air condition because it was hot.

We got the rest of the afternoon as free time until 6:30pm when we would meet for dinner.

A few people went for a nap and others went for a swim. I thought I would go for a walk and have a look around. I was walking out of the hotel when one of the other girls said she would come with me. I couldn't believe how hot it was here. We said we would go for a small walk and go for a swim.

We went for a quick walk half way down the hill and had a look at the view and came back to the hotel for a swim.

We then went back to our hotel rooms and got ready for dinner. We met in the foyer of the hotel and did a walking tour that took us to where we were having dinner.

We walked through the main part of town, through little Venice and to the windmills. Our walking tour took roughly an hour. And it was all down hill. I made a mental note that it was going to suck walking up later.

On the walk down to the windmills our guide told us that Mykonos is called the Windy City. The town is set up like a maze so the wind doesn't effect the stores. And he wasn't wrong. Walking along the water we were getting smashed with wind. The restaurants that had chairs and tables on the waters edge where constantly getting smashed with waves.

We got some sun set shots with the windmill and we were shown to our tables which were overlooking the sunset, windmills and water. It was amazing.

This dinner wasn't included. And they don't do spilt bills. So we had to make sure that we had cash on us for dinner. We all ordered off the menu and our meals arrived just in time for us to watch the sunset over the water.

After dinner when the sun had disappeared we made our way to the first club. The Mex Bar. The must get a lot of Australian tourist as they had an Aussie flag on the wall. The club was quite small and we were the only ones in it. But the music was pumping and the drinks were flowing. We got a free bottle of tequila on arrival. And the cocktails were cheap. In Australia when a bar tender makes any drink they use shot glasses to determine how much alcohol to put in the drinks. Here they don't. I was watching one of the bar tenders make my cocktail with my mouth open. She was very heavy with the pouring of the alcohol.

The club was pretty cool. The music was pumping, they had smoke machines, laser lights, bubble machine and a dj. Every so often they would throw napkins in the air.

We were all dancing on the dance floor when a bar tender grabbed my arm and I was told to dance on the bar. Cotye ugly style. I was the first person and only person on the bar. So I busted out the only moves I know. Putting my hands up in the arm.

After I dance... Sorry attempted to dance for a little while all the other girls joined me on the bar. While I was dancing... I was thinking... I'm dancing on a bar in Mykonos how cool is this!!!!!'

I don't remember how long we were at this club. As I said the drinks were flowing. But I know roughly 12-1am we were on our way to the next club. We all stayed out for a bit and my room mate said let's go. We only get one key between the two of us and by then I was pretty spent since we were up at 5am that morning.

A few of us now had the mission of trying to walk up the massive hill and find our hotel in the dark. It was harder than we thought. We got lost. One thing people don't tell you about Mykonos is there is not a lot of foot paths so you have to walk on the road. And bikes, mopeds and cars are just flying past you at all hours of the day and night. It was crazy.

Such a good day. We had been in Mykonos for less than 24hours and I was in love with it.
