Europe Rome- Bangkok Day fifteen & Sixteen

Day Fifteen,

I had breakfast and packed my bag. As I packed my bag I realised that my shopping and the extra items I had brought wouldnt all fit in.

I ended up leaving in the bin in the room a coat and some shirts I would never wear again. I after I triple checked that I had everything that I needed I went down to the lobby to wait for my ride to the airport. I got picked up and the transfer took about 30mins until I got to the air port. The drive was so scenic and beautiful.

When I got to Romes airport I got my bag cling wrapped first thing.

Tip: You never know what happens to your bag once it leaves you. Cling wrap will keep your belongs safe and stop people from sticking anything in your bag or taking it out. Just make sure you have a spare pair of clothes in your carry on bag for your stop over.

I started to feel a little bit nervous because of the last long flight I took I was really sick the whole way. The air port in Rome was so strange. I got through customs had some lunch and brought some snacks for the flight. I learnt my lesson from last time.

Tip: They feed you once at the begin of the flight and once at the end. If your hungry in between you just have to wait until you are about to land. Bring snacks on the plane.

I had a throbbing headache after I got through customs so I looked for a chemist. The chemist said that they didnt have panadol but could give me something like panadol. I honestly thought stuff that. I'll manage. I went to look for my gate then realised I had to get on a train to get there. When I got there I found a seat next to this lady from Chicago. She was soo cool and about to go to phuket for a holiday and was also travelling solo there.

She gave me a tip that not many people know about. If you get to the gate and then ask one of the attendants if they have any seats free in business class sometimes they will sell one to you for $100.00 other times they will give one to you for free. She got upgraded on the flight for free. You will never know if you will get up graded unless you ask.

The flight didnt take to long and wasnt very bumpy. The ten hour flight arrived in Bangkok at 6am and I had my flight didnt leave until 12am. By this time I was so tired with a huge headache. When I was in Brisbane I thought I would take a free walking tour that they offered me. There was no way I was going to do this now.

I walked to the front of the airport and inquired about how much a hotel room will cost. The receptionist told me roughly 3000. I asked her how much is that in Australia. Turns out it was only $50.00. This included a massage, breakfast and a room.  I paid right then on my card and was escorted out into a mini van. They drove down the road about 5mins to a hotel.

I got to the hotel as the sun was rising and had a buffet breakfast. It wasn't like th breakfast I had in Europe, there was stir fries, lettuce and egg. So I just had some egg and lettuce and went to my room and slept for 8 hours.

The dress that I put in my bag had a really high neck line and since I wasnt feeling fantastic I felt like it was chocking me so I wore my jeans, boots, and long sleeves shirt to walk over to the massage. And boy was that a mistake. Bangkok was so HOT! Because my bag was cling wrapped allready I didnt want to open it to get another dress out.

The massage I had was really bizzare. It wasnt a happy ending massage or anything it was just strange. They took me up in this elevator a few floors and told me to have a shower. So I went into this little room that just had a hose and some soap and had a quick rinse and threw the dressing gown on. Then I got on the massage table. She put a shower cap on my head and went to give me this black bit of material. I asked her if the bit of material was socks. And she said yes. Turns out it wasnt socks it was underwear she wanted me to wear.

It started off like a normal massage where I was laying on my front face down. I was starting to really relax when I realised she was now on the table with me. I was really starting to wonder what she was going to do next. Then she then got me to turn over did my arms then legs and then left the room for 10mins. When she came back she had a warm cloth for my face. She then massaged my head. She then literally push me to sit up and grabbed one of my arms and yanked it over my head. Since I wasnt wearing anything but a towel and some under wear that I got given. (Weird sentence I know) the towel fell down. I used my other hand to pull it up. She then grabbed the other arm and yanked it over my head and I quickly got my other hand that she had let go of to hold the towel up.

She then grabbed both of my arms and pulled them behind my head. Yep there goes my dignity as I thought  when the towel feel down. Then she started to count.... "One"  "What is she going to do?" I thought. "Two" "Ahhhh I'm about to find out." "Three" She yanked by arm so far back that my back cracked and she did it again with the other arm. After that the massage was over and I got to have another shower with the hose.

I went back to the hotel and had some fried rice for dinner and got picked up at 10pm for the hotel and got taken back to the airport. The airport was soooooo packed. I was in line for 45mins to get my ticket and when I got to the front of the line the lady told me I had to go pay a tax. And told me to come back when I had. So it took me 15mins but I found the taxi place got out my card to pay and they said I had to pay in cash, I was getting a bit stressed as my flight was going to leave soon and I hadnt even venture through customs. But Bangkok is not the place to get angry if you want to get out of the country to go home. I ended up finding a place to get cash out then going to pay the tax then going back to get my ticket. I had roughly 45mins until my plane was now scheduled to leave.

Tip: When you book your flight make sure that all your taxes are included. Get to the airport at least 2.5 hours before an international flight.  If you have a stop over in another country make sure you have some of their money in your wallet. You never know if you will need it. And its handy if you need to buy a drink, dinner or want to buy a gift.

It took me 15mins to get through customs then because Bangkok airport is so HUGE it took me another 10mins to get to the gate. I brought a bottle of water for the flight. As all the other flights I was allowed to have a bottle on the plane. I lined up to and they ended up checking out bags at the gate and made me throw out my water. Before this happened I took a travel sickness pill. I learnt my lesson from my first flight.

The plane was so full that I had a middle seat right behind the toilets. Which actually worked out quite well because I had so much room to stretch my legs out. We got given our first meal just after take off. And the two people that I was in between of went to sleep with there blankets over there head while I watched movies. Not just one. I watched 4. It was a 12hour flight to get back home. There was a little bit of turbulence but the travel sickness tablet really helped. I made it safe and sound.

Tip: If you are prone to having motion sickness, take a travel sickness tablet before you take off. This will also help you sleep.

I feel like I learnt alot from my holiday. I learnt to be control of my own life and it felt good. That travelling by your self can be such a rewarding experience. The best thing about travelling along was being able to choose what you could do every day without answering to anyone.

Although my trip was shorter than I would of liked. I am glad that I got to do it. Some people do not want to travel alone because they want to experience it with someone. Which is far enough. But I believe that if you cant find anyone to come with you than its better to go alone and have the experiences than not have it at all. And now after I have traveled alone that's the only way I want to do it.
