Creating an Itinerary for solo travelling

Hey guys,

Thanks for reading again.

Today I'm going to give you some tips on how to create an itinerary for the solo travelers. Creating an itinerary is a smart thing to do when you are travelling by your self for 2 important reasons. One to make sure you do not miss out on seeing anything that you want to see and Two when you complete your itinerary giving a copy to your friends and family. This way if the worst happens and you can not get in contact with you they will at least know where you are.

Tips for creating an itinerary:

  1. Open a an excel spread sheet
  2. Down the left hand side of your spread sheet write down the date that you will be departing all the way through to the date that you will be returning home.
  3. Then along the top write "Date"
  4. "Location"
  5. Flight (Aircraft)
  6. Flight time (Departing and landing)
  7. Flight number
  8. You can add the duration or the time differences between your home to where you are going
  9. Add in your information like the example below
Example
Date Location Flight time Plane Flight Number
Wednesday, 26 December 2012 Brisbane International- Suvamabhumi Inti Arpt Bangkok 2:20pm- 8:30pm Thai Airways TG474
Thursday, 27 December 2012 Suvamabhumi Inti Arpt Bangkok- Heathrow (LHR) 12:15am- 6:20am Thai Airways TG910
  London

10.  Then continuing to write along the top write " Transfers"
11. Accommodation
12. Activities (times- departs, concludes and address)

Transfer Accommodation Site Seeing Departs Concludes Address

City Transfers UK 26th Dec-31st Dec Hop on hop off tour
0800 389 8368 President hotel British Museum     Russell Square
16 Russell Square Changing of the guards     Buckingham palace
  +44 (0)20 7837 8844 Buckingham palace     Buckingham palace
Wicked-Musical 6:00pm 9:30pm Apollo Victoria Theatre Wilton rd London
Hop on hop off Bus tour
    Harrods
Tower, Big Ben, London Bridge, London Eye
Harry Potter Tour 8am 1:30pm centre 4 fountain square 123-151 Buckingham palace road London
Madame Tussauds  9:30am 5:30pm marylebone road London

Things to include on your itinerary:

  • Things that you want to include is transfer company names and phone numbers. As you will need to call and confirm these numbers before you get picked up by these companies.
  •  Your accommodation addresses and phone numbers so encase your phone gets stolen your family can call the hotel.
  • Activities and the address and times they are open
  • Tour times, address, duration, companies name and number
  • Places that you would like to see while you are in certain countries
  • Flight numbers and terminal numbers
  • Transfer companies and phone numbers or how you will be getting place to place
  • What air ports you will need to be at and what time

Some people will go over seas with out an itinerary which is up to them. But in regards to travelling overseas alone especially as a female I think its very important to have an itinerary to be able to give to your family and friend. It doesn't have to be as organised as mine but lets face its better to be prepared for the worst then something to happen to you and no one is able to get in contact with you.

Better to be safe than sorry.
